RUF Automobile GmbH - Tradition erhalten, Grenzen verschieben

RUF Automobile – Tradition in Motion

RUF is more than just a car brand; it’s a family story that began in 1939 in Pfaffenhausen, Germany. Alois Ruf Sr. founded AUTO RUF as a general garage. But it was his son, Alois Ruf Jr., who transformed the family business in 1974 into a name respected worldwide. What started as a passion for engineering quickly evolved into a deep-rooted love for Porsche, eventually forming the foundation for something truly unique.

RUF went beyond restoring and modifying Porsches. The company was officially recognised by the German government as an independent car manufacturer, developing its own chassis, engines, technology, and a distinctive identity.

Curious to see the RUF SCR come to life on the road? In our latest video on Bavaria Motors TV, we take you behind the wheel of this remarkable sports car. Discover its refined engineering, hear the sound of the naturally aspirated engine, and feel the pure emotion of driving. Watch the video!

The story of RUF is rooted in pure engineering, a strong motorsport DNA, and an uncompromising focus on driving experience. Their first fully modified car, the RUF 930 Turbo from 1977, set the tone for future models. But the real breakthrough came with the original SCR in 1978 – the first car fully designed and built by RUF. This SCR laid the foundation for RUF’s independent status as a car manufacturer.

The RUF SCR – A Tribute Powered by Modern Engineering

To this day, the SCR remains a cornerstone of the RUF philosophy. The latest generation is a masterpiece that honours the past while looking firmly toward the future.

The chassis

Thanks to a carbon fibre monocoque chassis, entirely developed by RUF, the iconic lines of a classic air-cooled 911 are taken to a new level. Weighing just 1,250 kg and powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six producing 510 hp at 8,270 rpm and 470 Nm of torque at 5,760 rpm, this car delivers an exceptionally pure driving experience.

It’s a sports car for true enthusiasts – for those who appreciate the musical tones of a high-revving, naturally aspirated 4.0-litre engine.

The motor

The performance is impressive: 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h. But it’s the technical finesse that truly stands out: double wishbone suspension with horizontal dampers, aluminium engine block and cylinder heads, sequential multipoint fuel injection, and ceramic brakes for optimal control.

Each cylinder features two valves, two camshafts, and two spark plugs. It’s all managed by a fly-by-wire throttle and a RUF-specific knock control system. The result? A driving experience that feels sharp, powerful, and perfectly composed.

Take a look behind the scenes at the RUF workshop in Pfaffenhausen. This is where engineering, tradition, and dedication come together in every hand-built car.
