SLR is an abbreviation for "Sport Leicht Rennsport" (Sport Light Racing), a homage to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR which served as the car's inspiration.
Exterior Styling cues and features for the SLR McLaren Roadster include a Formula-1 inspired arrow shaped nose, a dual-fin front spoiler, bi-xenon headlamps, side-exit dual exhaust, a power soft top, and an electronically operated rear spoiler and automatically deploying airbrake.
The AMG-tuned 5.4L supercharged M155 SLR V8 is paired to an AMG Speedshift R five-speed automatic transmission and rated from the factory at 625 horsepower.
