Audi RS 5 Avant TFSI Quattro
The RS5 Avant replaces the RS4 and is the first RS model Audi has built as a plug-in hybrid. The familiar 2.9 litre twin-turbo V6 stays, joined by an electric motor, together good for 639 ps and 825 Nm.
The real innovation sits at the rear. Audi built a new rear axle transmission that actively distributes torque between the left and right rear wheels. Where quattro until now mainly shifted power front to back, this car pushes itself through a corner from the outside rear wheel. The result is a two tonne estate that will oversteer when you ask it to, and behaves exactly like an Avant should when you don't.
Fun fact: under braking, a chequered flag pattern appears on the rear window, projected alongside the third brake light.
