The facelifted G63 retains its 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8, while the standard G-Class just traded that engine for a six-cylinder. 585 ps and 850 Nm, now supplemented by a 48V mild hybrid system through an integrated starter-generator that can add up to 20 ps and 200 Nm at low revs. That brings the sprint to 100 km/h down to 4.4 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than before. New is the semi-active hydraulic suspension, the same system used in the SL and GT Coupe, noticeably improving on-road comfort without compromising off-road capability. The three mechanically locking differentials remain unchanged. Inside, a revised MBUX infotainment system.
Fun fact: despite the facelift, Mercedes deliberately kept the recognisable sound of the doors closing. That specific sound was explicitly carried over as a design objective during the update.
