Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7

The Porsche 911 2.7 MFI is the direct successor to the legendary Carrera RS 2.7. When Porsche presented the RS in 1972, the sales department was so sceptical about its commercial prospects that management was ordered to place orders themselves and staff personally knocked on the doors of existing 911S customers to convert them. By the time the Paris Motor Show opened in October 1972, only 51 orders had been placed. Within a week of the show closing, all 500 examples were sold out. A total of 1,580 RS were eventually built.

When RS production ended in 1973, Porsche carried the RS engine directly forward into the 2.7 MFI. The same 2.7 litre air-cooled flat-six Type 911/83 with Bosch mechanical fuel injection, 210 ps, identical kerb weight of 1,075 kg, but now in the new G-series body with impact bumpers. The American market received a detuned version with K-Jetronic injection due to stricter emissions legislation. For Europe, Porsche retained the full RS engine, making the 2.7 MFI in practice the only correct successor to the RS for the European driver. The MFI was the last road car Porsche ever built with mechanical fuel injection. After that, the system lived on only in race cars. This example was originally delivered in France and has been in Belgium since 2008. Fully restored in December 2008 with documented maintenance since. The car is finished in Lachsdiamant with black leather interior.

Fun fact: the 2.7 MFI was never exported to North America. US emissions legislation required a revised injection system that drastically reduced power and entirely destroyed the character of the engine. The true MFI remained exclusive to Europe.
