Porsche 930 Turbo Coupé
The Porsche 930 Turbo Coupé from 1989 was the final evolution of the first-generation 911 Turbo. With its wide fenders, imposing ‘whale tail’ spoiler, and raw performance, it became one of the most sought-after Porsches ever. Under the bonnet lies a 3.3-litre turbocharged flat-six, producing 300 hp. This was the only model year where the 930 came standard with a five-speed manual gearbox, providing better power distribution and making the driving experience even more engaging.
The 930 Turbo was infamous for its brutal turbo lag, where power surged in suddenly, sending all the force to the rear wheels. This unpredictable nature earned it the notorious ‘widowmaker’ nickname. Its suspension and brakes, heavily inspired by Porsche’s race cars, ensured that despite its demanding character, the 930 remained stable and controlled at high speeds. It was the ultimate air-cooled Turbo of the 1980s, a timeless icon that still commands respect today.
